Washing and waxing your car regularly will help keep it looking new and fresh. Your goal should be to try and wash your car at least once per month and apply car polish once every three to four months. Washing your car will prevent build up of everything that you don’t want- bugs, salt build up, etc. Using car polish or wax protects the paint from fading and makes your car look shiny.
Usually, I like to wash my car about once per week. I tend to save change in one of the compartments of my car and use the change I accumulate at the self-serve car wash. During most weeks, I like to wash the car at some point and I usually apply car polish on Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Valentine’s Day. This definitely helps prevent corrosion and keeps my car look its best.
Waxing a car is actually pretty simple. Car polish or wax is actually just a thin, transparent layer over the paint. The car polish protects the paint job from the elements and masks minor flaws such as scratches. Car polish also seals the paint, making it less susceptible to corrosion. Begin waxing only after your have thoroughly washed and dried your car.
After drying the car, apply the car polish one section at a time to the car. I would suggest testing your car polish on a small, non-visible section to make sure that it won’t have adverse effects on the finish. I try to work from the top to the bottom of the car-there is a great chance of having dirt left on the bottom of the car. If you make that your last section, you won’t rub dirt all over the entire car-it will be concentrated to that one area.
Once you have completed the application process, buff your car to a nice shine using a soft, clean towel. I prefer to buy a towel to use specifically for this process, but an old house towel will do the job as long as it’s clean and soft.
These are some basic instructions that will help you to keep your car just as shiny and beautiful as the day you brought it home. This process doesn’t take long, and can actually be fun if you do it with a friend!

Horaayy..there are 21 comment(s) for me so far ;)
So imagine pouring orange juice on your car. There is no way you would just leave it there. You would take your car to go get washed. It is the same idea for car wax. That car wax allows for your car to be protected from any elements.
I will remember this blog.
This can happen for several reasons. Many consumers do not know that waxing their cars can keep them looking new. Other people believe that they do not have to use car wax because it has a clear coat on it.
What car wax does can be confusing for consumers. Car wax used to be solely for maintaining the colors of cars.
The modern technology has made it possible to produce car wax in greater numbers. Such is the production numbers that it is now found everywhere from corner grocery store to large shopping malls. Unfortunately, the overproduction has provided an opportunity to the con artists. Don’t fall for the cheap products that will never fulfill your desire of an exhibition quality finish. Take your time and research the web to find a good quality car wax.
You should write more. Really great information.
Paste car wax is easy to spread on a car because it comes with a reusable applicator that helps keep the car wax off glass. The newest kind of car wax is the spray on, wipe off car wax. This kind of car wax can be applied to a car that is still wet from washing but the shine does not last very long.
How do you know what kind of car wax to use? It depends on the size and age of your car, how much work you are willing to do, and how much time you are willing to put into waxing your car. If your car is only one or two years old, the finish should still be good and you will only need a light spray wax to make it shine.
In the past few years, most new cars come with a clear coat of transparent protective top coat. Does that mean you do not need car wax anymore?Environmental factors such as sunlight, road debris, and rain will eat away at the finish of your car so car wax can still be used to improve the shine on your car. After washing your car, adding a coat of car wax can help protect the paint on your car against environmental factors.
Car waxes are not all the same. There are liquid car waxes, paste car waxes, and the spray on, wipe off type of car wax.
Thanks for sharing. I could have used this information a while a go.
I will come back to this site. This is a great blog.
Certain natural colors like red are exposed to the natural sunlight that makes them vulnerable to rust. To protect the exposure, the car polish acts as the first line of defense against the fury of nature. Contrary to certain advertisement flicks, every time the car is polished, a layer of the original paint is peeled off. It is therefore necessary to use a fine cotton cloth to polish the car. The fibers inside the cotton interact naturally with the components in a car polish.
Great post.
Adding a coat of wax after washing your car can help to protect the paint on your car.
There are different kinds of car waxes. There are liquid car waxes, paste car waxes, and the spray on, wipe off type of car wax. Liquid car wax is the hardest to apply to your car and it takes a lot of work to buff after applying liquid car wax. Paste car wax used to be the most common type of car wax used but is now the least commonly used car wax.
The reason is simple; everyone loves a shiny car and a good polish helps you get the brand new look back. Car polishes not only make your car look fresh, but also help protect the paint and prevent paint failure. Bird poo, oil, dust and grime are some of the pollutants that accumulate on the outer surface of a car over a period of time. Just washing your car is not sufficient as most of these contaminants have acids and adhesive agents in them which stick to the car paint and slowly eat through the protective layer of paint exposing bare metal. Bare metal corrode easily leading to rusting of the car, reducing its life and resale value.
Polish uses an abrasive and can leave the finish on your car even more exposed to the elements so you should follow it by using car wax. Some products on the market have both a polish and a car wax in them. Expert auto detailers say you should apply the polish and the car wax separately.
Car wax protects the value of your car and will keep it looking really good Car wax will also make your car stay cleaner longer and make it really easy to wash it. The dirt and bugs will not stick to your car very easily when it has a good coat of car wax on it.
Groovy blog. Thank you.
I have seen recommendations for two separate sponges to be used, one for the wheels and one for the chassis, if you would like.
After you have rinsed the soap off of your car, it is a good idea to dry the outside of the windows, at least. It is best to wipe down the windshield and windows inside the car with some household glass cleaner and paper towel. Protective rubber spray to keep your tires from cracking can be a good investment. Tire spray will keep your rubber from cracking and weakening in the heat.
Once you have the basic car wash supplies needed, you can being washing.
If you like to go the extra mile making your car look professionally done, there are a couple more things you might want to buy. A chamois cloth is good to have to dry your car by hand so it does not streak. Once your car dries, you can use special car wax to give it a beautiful shine that can make it look like new again. Just about all of these supplies can be purchased at your local grocery or specialty shop.
The protective layer formed by the car wax is only enough to save the paint from oxidation and it cannot form complete protection from all damage, such as bird droppings and scratches from heavy objects. For a natural shine and protection from the harsh environment there is nothing better than using car wax.
Car wax forms a thin transparent layer over the cars exterior paint thus forming a primary protection against any harm caused to the automobile. Though car wax does not provide complete protection from scratches in any it does make them less visible which is very beneficial. Car wax also reduces corrosion due to water as it forms a seal on the pain through which water cannot enter.
Just washing your car is not sufficient as most of these contaminants have acids and adhesive agents in them which stick to the car paint and slowly eat through the protective layer of paint exposing bare metal. Exposed metal leads to corrosion, rust and reduction in the life of the car as also its resale value. There are numerous car polishes in the market with a varying number of ingredients. However, most car polishes have abrasive component to help remove the oil and grime marks. Some car polish products also include filler agents to fill in the gaps left by scratch marks.
I needed this site last month. Totally awesome.
Work your way around the entire outside of the car using these circular motions, reapply wax to your sponge when necessary. Take care to avoid the cracks between the hood, doors and trunk. In the event that wax gets in, you can use a soft bristle toothbrush to gently remove it from cracks, with care.
Wax will be dry where you began once you have worked around the entire car. Remove wax with the terry cloth towel from where you began, using the same motions.
